Answers to the most frequently asked questions about the Tru-Pure Bottled Water System & Sanitizer:
WHAT ARE THE MOST IMPORTANT BENEFITS OF THE TRU-PURE UNIT?
Tru-Pure provides two types of benefits for the home:
- Bottled water quality water using filtration and ozone disinfection similar to that in a commercial water bottling plant at only pennies per gallon.
- Surface and food sanitizing rinse to help minimize exposure to microbiological contamination of surfaces such as cutting boards, sinks, dishes and foods such as fruits, vegetables, produce and meats. Tru-Pure also permits rinsing of hands and face to help prevent spread of germs such as Staphylococcus and e. Coli. Rinsing the surfaces of fruits and vegetables has been shown to extend the shelf life of such foods by reducing the levels of many micro-organisms that cause food spoilage. The ozone leaves no chemical residual on such surfaces because it reverts to its original oxygen form very quickly.
WHY IS TRU-PURE SUPERIOR TO OTHER TYPES OF POINT OF USE WATER TREATMENT?
The three most common types of Point of Use water treatment systems available are straight filtration, reverse osmosis and filtration combined with ultra-violet light.Tru-Pure offers benefits never before available with any undercounter or counter top system because it combines state-of-the-art filtration with the germ killing power of ozone for the purest drinking water and for controlling the spread of unhealthy micro-organisms in your kitchen and home environment. Also, Tru-Pure produces pure water at a constant rate of one gallon per minute, 60 gallons per hour, 1,440 gallons per day. Standard filtration can allow micro-organisms to pass. Super fine micron filtration may filter out cysts but then recontaminate downstream when filters are changed. Reverse osmosis produces a limited amount of water per day and wastes significant amounts of water flushing out contaminants. R.O. also can allow bacteria and viruses to pass into the drinking water and can produce a flat, "dead" tasting water. Ultraviolet light eliminates some bacteria so long as the bulb is at full strength but does not provide residual disinfection protection downstream. None of the common water treatment systems can deliver the benefits Tru-Pure can.
HOW DOES THE TRU-PURE UNIT TREAT WATER FOR DRINKING?
Tru-Pure provides two levels and types of filtration and then injects powerful ozone gas as a final stage disinfectant which insures flavorful and microbiologically safe water.
- The first filter is a particulate filter which removes dirt, rust and other contaminant from the water.
- The second filter is a carbon block filter which removes chlorine, organics and other impurities.
- The final stage ozone injection destroys micro-organisms and adds a high level of flavorful oxygen to the product water.
HOW MUCH OZONE IS INJECTED INTO THE WATER?
The ozone level in the water at one gallon per minute is between .2 and .25 parts per million. This is in the mid-range of the amount of ozone required by the FDA and state health departments for disinfection in bottled water plants. FDA regulations call for between .1 and .4 parts per million going into the bottle to insure microbiological safe bottled water.
IS THE OZONE SAFE TO DRINK?
Yes. The ozone turns back into oxygen very quickly. To give an idea of how much ozone is in the water, .25 parts per million is the equivalent to one inch in 64 miles. The ozone in the water is within the safe guidelines for ozone established by the FDA Bottled Water Regulations. Ozone has been used to treat municipal drinking water since 1905.
DOES THE OZONE EFFECT THE TASTE OF THE WATER?
Only in a positive way. There is a slight smell of ozone if the water is consumed instantly, but extensive taste tests have shown that even people with very sensitive taste threshold do not detect any ozone taste in the water. In fact, due to the high oxygen level in the water, people report a fresh flavor and some have compared it to drinking from a mountain stream near a waterfall.
IF OZONE WILL ATTACH GERMS IN THE WATER. WHY DOSEN'T IT EFFECT PEOPLE'S MOUTHS?
The concentration of ozone dissolved in the water is far too low to impact the mucus membrane of the mouth, throat or stomach. While there is enough ozone to impact bacteria in the mouth when first consumed, the water undergoes a rapid temperature change, causing the ozone to revert to oxygen very rapidly. People routinely consume strong oxidizers, such as the acids found in soft drinks, without concern.
WILL OZONE KILL PATHOGENIC BACTERIA IN HUMANS?
Because of the rapid return to oxygen that occurs when the ozonated water is consumed, little or no ozone is actually ingested. In many countries outside the United States, ozone is used in a wide variety of medical treatment due to its powerful germ killing and oxygenation capabilities. However, ozone is not approved as a medical treatment in the United States. It is important to note that the Tru-Pure is neither intended nor sold as a medical device. No medical claims for the Tru-Pure are authorized by the manufacturer and any representation of the Tru-Pure as a medical device is prohibited by the manufacturer.
IS THE OZONE GAS RELEASED INTO THE AIR BY THE TRU-PURE TREATED WATER HARMFUL?
No. Ozone is classified as an irritating gas in high concentrations than are emitted from the treated water. The EPA has established a limit of .1 parts per million in the air for eight hours continuous exposure. Only a small portion of the ozone in the treated water is released momentarily into the air. If all the ozone in one gallon of water were released into one cubic foot of air, the level would amount to 0.03 parts per million. In actual usage, the amount of ozone released is much smaller. The small amount released actually will serve as a slight room deodorizer, helping minimize cooking smells and sink odor from garbage disposals. People vary in their ability to detect the smell of ozone, with some being able to smell it in amounts as low as 0.004 part per million.
WHAT IS THE RECOMMENDED METHOD FOR USING THE TRU-PURE FOR HOME BOTTLED WATER?
The optimum method is to fill a container, cap it and let it set for about four minutes. This will give the ozone time to counteract any microbial contamination present in the container. Keeping the container capped between use will help minimize any recontamination.
HOW IS THE TRU-PURE USED FOR SANITIZING SURFACES?
First of all, remember that the Tru-Pure unit is designed as a sanitizing rinse. It is necessary to wash items such as dishes, cutting boards, meat trays, kitchen sponges, etc., to remove coarse particles, oils and grease as you do normally, then rinse them to remove the soap. Then you should place the item under the cold water ozone rinse from the Tru-Pure for at least 30 to 60 seconds, making sure that all parts of the item are well contacted with the ozonated water. It is very important that the ozonated water reach all parts of the item. For cutting boards, especially after cutting up chicken, fish and meat, let the ozonated water flood all surfaces for one to two minutes.
HOW IS THE TRU-PURE USED FOR SANITIZING FOODS?
The best method is to place the food item in a bowl and flood with ozonated water for one to two minutes. It is recommended that the item be rubbed with the hands to make sure all crevices are contacted thoroughly. Also make certain that all dirt is well scrubbed off because it can act as a barrier under which bacteria can hide from the ozone.
CAN TRU-PURE WATER BE USED FOR WASHING HANDS, FACE ETC.?
Yes. Ozone is a powerful eliminator of Staph and other germs common to the human skin surface. The hands or face should be washed as usual first with warm soap and water, rinsed with warm water to remove the soap, then rinsed thoroughly for at least one minute with the ozonated water. The longer the ozone rinse, the greater the reduction in skin-borne micro-organisms.
CAN TRU-PURE OZONATED WATER BE USED ON HOUSE PLANTS?
Definitely. Ozonated water is being used commercially to enhance plant growth on potatoes and other vegetables. Although it is not completely understood why ozonated water exerts such a powerful stimulation to plant growth, one theory is that the super oxygenation of the plant roots increases the nitrogen uptake of the plant. Another theory is that the ozone eliminates pest microbes around the root system so that the plant does not have to expend energy fighting them and turns that energy into fuller growth. From years of working with ozone, Tru-Pure believes that both theories may be accurate.
